A quick one

Hello Reader,

A very short newsletter this week, as I was busy with a few things this week and didn’t have my normal time to work on this.

Very quickly, the company I use for my merch, Cotton Bureau, is running a sale for Black Friday. If you use the coupon EXTRAGRAVY at checkout, if you're in the US, you'll get free shipping, and anywhere else in the world gets 50% off shipping.

🙋‍♂️ What I’ve been up to this week

Can I clone this rotating, gradient, inner-glow effect?

I recently came across this cool blurred, rotating gradient border effect by Ana Tudor, and before looking at how they created it, I tried my best to recreate it!

I was pretty happy with what I created, where I used mask to pull off the effect, but Ana definitely had a better approach in using border-image instead.

Don’t overthink it

In this episode of my podcast, General Musings, I discuss the theme of not overthinking content creation, inspired by Jason and Caroline Zook’s Growing Steadily newsletter.

I emphasize the importance of focusing on content quality over polish, and talk both about it in terms of content creation and development.

Next week’s newsletter should be back to the normal format 🙂.

Have a fantastic week!
Kevin

View this email in your browser (or share it with a friend!) Hello Reader, I had already written this week's newsletter when the Chrome dev team dropped CSS Wrapped 2024. It's looks at 17 new features added to CSS this year, including demos of everything, and the site is a lot of fun to boot. Definitely go and check it out! Now, on to what I'd already written for this week 🙂. I get asked for advice about starting or growing a YouTube channel quite often. I’m always very happy to share and...

Perfect menu positioning with pure CSS

View this email in your browser (or share it with a friend!) Hello Reader, Today’s newsletter is a bit different. It's almost like a journal entry. I started writing it to try and help me figure out how I ended up where I am today with this whole CSS thing. I've been thinking about that a lot lately. I'm often asked how this became my thing, and my usual answer is to talk about the meandering path that took me here. That doesn't explain the why, just the how. And that's because I never really...

View this email in your browser (or share it with a friend!) Hello Reader, The normal general musings I usually open this up with will follow, but CSS has a new logo. CSS Next opened up submissions a while back, and this was the eventual winner, with a nice touch in using rebeccapurple as the color for it. You can see the different submissions and progress that was made in this repo One of the reasons for needing a new logo is the upcoming new “versions” of CSS that will be happening, with...
