Hello Reader,

You may have noticed that I didn’t send out an email last week.

This week’s email is going to be a short one as well.

I have some personal matters that I’m taking care of at the moment, so I may miss sending one out next week as well; we'll have to see, but things will be back to normal here in another week or two.

And because this section is shorter than normal, an apology to everyone who voted for the musings at the start of your emails, which was almost tied with the people who voted for the what I’ve been up to section.

A few people reached out to ask if I was going to use the results to change the format of my newsletter and unless one section got like, <5% of the vote, I had no plans to change anything.

I was mostly curious, and I also realize that because someone voted for one of those sections, it doesn’t mean they don’t like the others 😊.

🙋‍♂️ What I’ve been up to this week

No podcast or Short this week. They should be back in ~2 weeks, give or take a week.

Wrapper classes: A layout foundation

video preview

I’m going to be sprinkling in a little bit more beginner content from time to time, and this week I did that, taking a look at the very basics of using a .container/.wrapper class, even though I have mostly stopped using them in favor of this grid breakout system I use now.

I think foundational videos are still good to have, and even if I don’t use setups like that anymore (and prefer using width: min() when I do), what I covered in this video is what people will run into most of the time, so I think it’s still worth teaching.

Hello Reader, A few months ago, I pitted the F1 team websites against each other, and I thought it would be fun to make a landing page for a fictional team that could at least challenge the few teams who’d done a good job with theirs. I was pretty happy with what I’d come up with, but just as I was putting the finishing touches on it, Jason Lengstorf, of Learn with Jason and Leet Heat fame, reached out to let me know about a...

View this email in your browser (or share it with a friend!) Hello Reader, From my experience, there are a few reasons people push back on new things, but the most common one I see revolves around people preferring the old way of doing things. This makes sense, because they are comfortable with what they are used to, rather than the new way, which is different. When something new comes along, that means they have to learn it, which for a lot of people means that it’s slower. The thing is, in...

View this email in your browser (or share it with a friend!) Hello Reader, Last week on my second channel, I asked a question near the end of the video about whether or not people are worried that, thanks to more and more people using AI to write code, there would be less pressure on languages to evolve. That led to a lot of interesting comments, with a bit of a split on people’s opinions. The two main arguments were: AI producing more and more code just builds up the training data on the...
